
Mariana Vieira
Mariana Vieira (1997) completed her bachelor’s degree in composition and her master’s degree in music pedagogy at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML), under the supervision of Jaime Reis. Her work includes acousmatic, mixed and instrumental music in solo, chamber, ensemble and orchestral settings, as well as didactic works. Her music has been performed at festivals such as Young Euro Classic and BachFest (Germany), L’Espace du Son (Belgium), Crossroads and Echoes Around Me (Austria), Monaco Electroacoustique (Monaco), Aveiro_Síntese and Música Viva (Portugal). She was awarded the European Composer Award (Germany) in 2017 for her piece Raiz, written for the Portuguese Youth Orchestra (JOP), the Electronic Music Composition Contest by Musicworks magazine (Canada) in 2021, and the Young Lion*ess of Acousmatic Music competition, promoted by The Acousmatic Project (Austria), in 2022. Besides her compositional output, she has been involved in artistic structures such as Projecto DME, Lisboa Incomum and the association EMSCAN. As a scholarship holder of FCT Foundation, she is currently pursuing a PhD in Performing Arts and Moving Image (specialising in Composition) at the Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, in collaboration with IPL/ESML, under the supervision of Carlos Caires and António Sousa Dias.
