
João Moreira
João Moreira (2004) started learning music when he was 16 years old, with composer David Miguel at the Telheiras Music Academy. There he was introduced to the world of contemporary music. In 2021, he was one of the six winners of the MATA Jr competition which resulted in the premiere of a work for string quartet in New York, by the Bergamot Quartet. Since then, he has participated in master classes with Pierluigi Billone, Franck Bedrossian and Luís Naón, he had the opportunity to discuss his music with composers such as Mark Andre, Samuel Andreyev, Jaime Reis and João Quinteiro, among others, and to see his work performed in six different countries, working with groups such as the PHACE Ensemble, Bergamot Quartet, Solem Quartet, ars ad hoc, ConcrèteLab, soloists such as Irvine Arditti (Arditti Quartet), ÉricMaria Couturier (Ensemble Intercontemporain), Tiago Coimbra and the Portuguese Youth Orchestra (JOP). He was also a scholarship student at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was mentored by composer Helen Grime for a year. He is currently studying Comparative Arts and Cultures at the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa and his work is published by the Portuguese Music Research and Information Centre.
