ars ad hoc

Founded in 2018, ars ad hoc is Arte no Tempo’s chamber music project. Since 2021, contemporary music has taken on a more prominent role in the group’s regular work, which has been developing artistic residencies and holding regular concerts at Serralves Foundation, in addition to other performances combining the interpretation of contemporary music with works from the main classical/romantic/modernist repertoire. Curated by Diana Ferreira, ars ad hoc is made up of a core group of versatile musicians who, after gaining recognition in Portugal, furthered their studies abroad. The ensemble currently maintains a regular concert season of three programmes at the Serralves Foundation (Porto), in addition to participating in the Arte no Tempo’s biennales (Aveiro) and at various Portuguese international music festivals (Espinho, Leiria, Marvão, Póvoa de Varzim, Viseu), as well as performing “classical vs contemporary” programmes in different locations, with the support of Banco BPI | Fundação “la Caixa”. It also offers special projects for schools in the Aveiro region, as part of AnT’s “crescer com a música” [growing with music] program, and participates in concerts organized by the Performing Arts Department of the Serralves Foundation. ars ad hoc focuses on interpreting new music for different instrumental combinations, with or without electronics, regularly performing and premiering works by both national and international composers, working whenever possible in direct collaboration with the artists who sometimes write music specifically for this group. Rather than seeking to premiere many scores by different composers, ars ad hoc is primarily concerned with deepening its interpretation of different works, providing them with different perspectives over time. Arte no Tempo is funded by the República Portuguesa Cultura / Direcção-Geral das Artes. ars ad hoc is kindly supported by Banco BPI – Fundação “la Caixa”.
