Rui C. Antunes is a violinist and composer based in Leipzig. Since 2024, he has been a member of the Kairos Quartett and is a founding member of the Concrète [Lab] Ensemble (Lisbon). He has been a member of Ensemble Reflexion K (Eckernförde) since 2023.

Active in contemporary music as both performer and composer, his works have been presented across Europe and have received several distinctions. His artistic practice combines a strong engagement with new repertoire and close collaboration with composers.

A particular focus of his work lies in the research of multiphonics on the violin and viola, which led to the creation of the first comprehensive catalogue of multiphonics for these instruments.

Antunes studied in Lisbon and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig, where he completed a master’s degree in violin performance with highest distinction, as well as a master’s degree in composition with Fabien Lévy.

He currently teaches New Music performance practice for strings at the HMT Leipzig.
